Greensburg, PA is a smaller city with a very high qualityof life. Once a coal mining town, the city has adapted welland adjusted to the changing times. Industry thrives hereand the city is a magnet for businesses and the arts.Greensburg offers a "small town" feel but with all theamenities of a much larger city. Many historical buildingsare also within city limits making Greensburg a citysteeped in tradition and history. Greensburg's proximity toPittsburgh should also be noted. For anyone looking torelocate to Western Pennsylvania, Greensburg is a rich citythat deserves your consideration.

Greensburg is a major cultural and business hub located inWestern Pennsylvania. It is seated in Westmoreland Countyand is twenty six miles south east of Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania. It is also the county seat of WestmorelandCounty. In 2007 this small city made the list of "BestPlaces to Retire" in a report published by the U.S. Newsand World Report.

According to the 2000 census the city of Greensburg had apopulation of 15,889 people. If you take into account theareas immediately surrounding Greensburg the population ofthe Greater Greensburg area jumps to 57,225 people. Itshould be noted that during work hours the city'spopulation doubles due to the many people who commute toGreensburg from surrounding areas for work. AlleghenyEnergy and Excela Health are two of the region's largestemployers. Greensburg is a city that maintains a small townfeel.

Pennsylvania Avenue is the city's "main street" as it ishome to many mom and pop type stores. A large and modernmall also exists in the area. At one time four largedepartment stores called downtown Greensburg their home.Today light and moderate industry thrives within the city.A hospital is also located within the city limits as well.Eight different wards or neighborhoods make up the city ofGreensburg. The Downtown Greensburg Historic District andthe Academy Hill Historic District are two cityneighborhoods that hold the honor of being designated asU.S. national historic districts. The Academy Hill Districtis made up of over two hundred and forty buildings with afarmhouse built in 1840 being the oldest on the register.The Downtown Greensburg Historic District sits just abovethe Academy Hill neighborhood. This neighborhood boastssixty two buildings that are on the register. PennsylvaniaAvenue also runs through this neighborhood.

This proud city is home to the Westmoreland Museum ofAmerican Art. The city's cultural district also boastsclaim to The Palace Theater which houses the WestmorelandSymphony Orchestra. The Westmoreland Cultural Trust has hadmuch to do with Greensburg's developing cultural district.This group has been responsible for renovating manycommercial buildings of historical and architecturalinterest downtown. Additionally Seton Hall University isdeveloping a Performing Arts Center in the area. A hands onscience center to be named the Discovery & InteractiveScience Center has also been proposed for this area. Apossible location for this attraction is the former MellonBank building located downtown. Greensburg is also home toa booming local music scene and offers a hip night lifescene as well.
