Those who have advanced musical training may find themselves bored with the same old lessons. Incorporating jazz piano improvisation techniques into lessons may offer some variety. A lot of teaching methods include a great deal of memorization and repetition. While this is a great method for learning the basics, it can wear a person down if they have been working with the same piece for a number of weeks. If a student gets bored, especially a child, they may lose the motivation to continue their lessons. If they start to resent the monotony of the lessons, it will not be long until they are no longer interested in practicing.
It is a shame how many people find they give up on their lessons because they have lost interest. What they do not realize is that they have lost interest in the lesson and not in the music or the instrument. Finally, you should constantly be looking for new ways to make your lessons fun. Just because you are not bored now does not mean that a month from now, you will not begin to lose interest. It is best to plan ahead and be sure there are plenty of challenging activities for you when the time comes. If you are planning lessons for your child, know there will come a time when they grow bored with practicing. Having something on hand to keep things new, or introducing something just before the boredom strikes, will keep them passionate about the music.
