I SURRENDER, DEAR ~ The Stardusters~ Charlie Spivak & His Orchestra ~ 1941 ~ Okeh Records.
The lead voice here is , June Hutton, the sister of Ina Ray Hutton, but of NO relation to Betty & Marion Hutton, who were sisters. June Hutton & The Stardusters left the Spivak Orchestra in 1943. Hutton would later join up with The Pied Piers (Dorsey's once vocal group) as replacement for Jo Stafford, who had stopped singing temporarily. It is this group of "Pied Pipers", with Hutton, that recorded the classic "DREAM" on Johnny Mercer's Capitol Records label.
Bandleader, Charlie Spivak, started his first band in 1939, which failed, but started another band the following year with the financial support of Glenn Miller. This second orchestra was fantastic and did well. Singer, Irene Daye, was Hutton's replacement and not long afterwards, became Mrs. Charlie Spivak . By 1945, the "Big Band Era" was beginning to fade and like so many band leaders of the day, Spivak wrapped it up & threw in the towel. With that said, Charlie Spivak was an excellent trumpeter and stands out among the best of them !
